Protocol Discovery in the Future Internet

Although ADAPT provides a client-side solution, we lack a uniform model for offering and accessing arbitrary network services (web sites, shell logins, name lookups, video streaming, etc.). Why is that a problem? Today, clients simply assume that a service such as a web server always uses TCP. If, however, services begin to dynamically pick the most suitable protocols at runtime, such assumptions can no longer be made. Thus, a client needs to first learn the protocols through which a service is accessible before connecting to it.
